Silver Threads: A Novel
Published in Paperback by Naiad Pr (March, 1999)
Author: Lyn Denison
Average review score:

Endearing & Passionate
This is the first lesbian love story I have read & with stories like this one, I will be reading many more. Mel has lost her lover of six years to some young thing & goes home to "get away" from the constant reminders. Little does she know that she will barely think of "what's her name"! Mel's attention is fully taken by her mother's friend, Crys, who Mel was not so unmoved by as a teenager! The attraction between the two is wonderfully written & hot!! I went right out and ordered another Lyn Denison book after reading this one--TWICE.

The Silver Touch
Published in Hardcover by Thorndike Pr (Largeprint) (March, 1989)
Author: Rosalind Laker
Average review score:

Great Reading
This was one of Laker's best books of the ones I have read. It is woven together with strong characters. She is able to prove that women can do the same as men in supporting themselves. There is also a combinination of the struggles of a family with romance. My favorite aspect was the metal working that the main character did even though she was a woman. It was an excellant book and I hope that others will enjoy it as much as I have.

The Silver Tree
Published in Library Binding by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (June, 1992)
Author: Ruth L. Williams
Average review score:

The best thriller-type book that I have ever read.
This book catches your attention instantly. Once you read two or three chapters you are not only absolutely engrossed in the book, but you start feeling as if you were Micki Silver. You will enjoy reading it and it is harder to put down than cheesecake and strawberries(and maybe some milk, too!)!

The Silver Trumpet
Published in Paperback by Bookmakers Guild (April, 1989)
Authors: Owen Barfield, Marjorie L. Mead, and Josephine Spence
Average review score:

A Classic Fairy Tale
It's a shame that this book has gone out of print again, for I have yet to read another fairy tale that I have enjoyed more. C.S. Lewis thought highly of it, and J.R.R. Tolkien's children were completely taken by it when their father read it to them. The 1989 edition of the book has the wonderful illustrations of Josephine Spence to complement this delightful story.

Silver, an Instructional Guide to the Silversmith's Art
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall Trade (November, 1980)
Author: Ruel O. Redinger
Average review score:

Excellent for Beginning Silversmiths
I read a library copy of this 1981 book and now want to add ir to my personal library. Unlike the many other books I have read on silversmithing, this is not a "see what I did" book. Rather, it teaches you basic operations and then provides you with step-by-step written and illustrated instructions for five different projects: Two rings, a bracelet, a watchband and a pendant, all using cabochon stones. The book does not pretend to do everything, but what it does, it does well. If you want to start doing silver work, try to find a copy of this book. As noted, you might be able to find it at your local library. Good luck. The book also list suppliers with names and addresses, and, although the book is from 1981, I have recently dealt with several of the suppliers listed.

Silver, Gold, and Precious Stones: Adventures in Art
Published in Hardcover by Prestel USA (April, 2000)
Authors: Gustav Klimt and Angela Wenzel
Average review score:

Gorgeous book!! Not just for kids.
This is a beautiful book. It is geared toward older children, but the presentation and photo quality will make any adult take a second look. Klimt's work is often characterized by the use of gold leaf -- this book actually prints the paintings so that they have a gold surface. Each page discusses an aspect of Klimt's life or work-- his relationship with Emile Floge, his travels to Italy, his Beethoven Frieze, etc. The background of each page is beautifully decorated to correspond with the information and photographs.

I have several other books of Klimt's work-- this one has the best overview of his life and work, best reproductions, and by far my favorite in terms of how it presented the information. It is only 30 pages, but is truly a gem of a book.

If you are interested in art history or art in general, I also recommend the other Adventures in Art books, particulary the one on Van Gogh. The presentation is very similar to the Klimt book.

The Sin of Silver
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (June, 2001)
Author: Dinko Lucic
Average review score:

The most exciting thriller
This is my first read of a Dinko Lucic novel. I look forward to more. I enjoyed this one very much.

The characters and their circumstances are realistically portrayed. Life is harsh and author proves that in a very sophisticated way. The story has an exciting pace and a remarkable ending. Well worth the time spent reading.

The Sixth Star: Images and Memorabilia of California Women's Political History 1868-1915
Published in Paperback by Ord Street Press (01 August, 2000)
Authors: Mae Silver and Sue Cazaly
Average review score:

The only book out on the suffrage campaigns in California
This slim but information-packed guide is the only book out on the suffrage campaigns in California and will prove an essential addition to any library collection serious about representing women's history. Images and memorabilia of California women's politics from 1868-1915 accompany text facts making for a fine guide for both study and leisure browsing.

The Sky in Silver Lace
Published in Hardcover by Viking Childrens Books (February, 1996)
Author: Robin Klein
Average review score:

A poignant, witty novel
This is without a doubt the best book I have ever read! It is the third novel in the Melling saga, capturing beautifully the care-free happiness of the late 1940's. With wonderful characters, and scenes both hilarious and touching, this is a book you'll want to read again and again: Robin Klein is a genius!

Social Justice in the Ancient World
Published in Hardcover by Greenwood Press (October, 1995)
Authors: K. D. Irani and Morris Silver
Average review score:

Definitive Work on Social Justice
As far as I know, this is the only available work of its kind, and it is outstanding. Probing the concepts of social justice in great depth and packed with seminal contributions, each chapter makes ancient ideas come to life, often with great relevance for the modern world. If everyone read this book, the world today would surely be a much better place.
